Voice identity: how schools turn it on
Plain-language guide to what voice identity does, trial vs paid, where admins toggle it, and what students and teachers see.

Goal: Understand what voice identity is for, where to toggle it, and what students/teachers experience — without server or model deployment details.

What it is
Voice identity checks that the person speaking matches the student account (voiceprint).
It is not pronunciation scoring and does not replace exam content scores.
Typical uses:
- Formal speaking exams: a short re-recording before start; pass to enter the exam (often on by default).
- Practice: optional spot-check (often off by default; when on, usually a warning, or block if you configure it).

If settings say the capability is missing, contact the platform / sales to enable formal service or the pack — not a deploy command in this help center.
Where to toggle
- Org admin → Settings → Speaking & exams (labels follow the UI).
- Find the Voice identity block.
- You can set separately:
- Require verification for formal exams
- Spot-check during practice
- Pass threshold (how similar counts as the same person; platform default about 95%, adjustable in the allowed range)
Changes apply after save. Engines and hosting are handled by the platform / ops — you do not configure URLs or secrets here.
What students experience
- In Me → Settings (or the exam dialog), agree to the notice and read ~3–5 seconds to enroll.
- If exams require verification: enroll first if needed, then record a short check.
- On failure, the UI shows similarity % and the required threshold; retry per your policy limits.
Ask students to enroll before exam day to reduce last-minute failures.
What teachers see
In Reports, opening a formal exam detail usually shows:
- Voice identity: similarity %
- Result: pass / fail (“same person?”)
No embedding vectors or vendor model names.
How to know it is set up
- Settings show toggles and threshold, and save succeeds.
- With exam verification on: unenrolled students cannot start; enrolled students who pass can enter.
- Teacher reports show similarity and pass/fail when exam data exists.

Students keep failing?
Check similarity vs threshold; re-enroll in a quiet room with natural speech; do not raise the threshold without reason.
Exams only, not practice?
Turn off practice spot-check and keep the exam toggle (often the default).
Do we install a speaker service ourselves on private deploy?
That is ops / delivery work, not daily admin settings. Ask implementation or platform ops; admins only manage policy toggles.
