Assign from textbook
Teachers use "Select Courses from Teaching Materials" to assign speaking tasks, and can make single lesson preparation adjustments (excluding production/uploading of textbooks).
Audience: Teachers · Applies to: SaaS / private
Goal: Select a lesson from the textbooks already released by the institution and publish it as a speaking task; you can optionally make adjustments to lesson preparation. Producing and uploading textbooks is beyond the scope of this article - it will be activated in advance by the platform/institution.
Preconditions
- Logged into the teacher app and can see the target class and students.
- The institution has authorized the use of Teaching Material Package (otherwise the UI will prompt that there are currently no textbooks and you need to contact the administrator).
- For the arrangement of "Free Scene", see Assignment of Speaking Tasks.
Concept (clear it first)
| Argument | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Textbook Package → Unit → Textbook | Content tree; Textbook is selected during layout |
| Spoken Task | Usually One Lesson = One Task; after publishing, students will see it in Speaking → To-do / Space |
| Student main navigation "Space" | Student learning entry point (task list + optional Space interaction), not teacher navigation |
Where is the UI?
Teacher app main navigation → "Task". When arranging, choose the arrangement method "Select lessons from the textbooks" (compare "Freely select scenes").
Steps
- Open the main navigation Tasks and select the class.
- Select the arrangement method "Assign from textbook".
- Select Textbook Course (the UI is mostly
unit · lesson name; generally only courses with exercises are listed). - Check the pre-filled task description (commonly, read the handout first and then speak), and change the title and deadline as needed.
- Create and Publish.
- Verify that the status is Published in the Published list.
Lesson preparation adjustments (optional)
You can make "lesson preparation adjustments (responsibility belongs to the teacher)" for this task before and after publishing:
- Can overwrite handouts etc. shown to students; Official textbook pack will not be rewritten.
- The responsibility statement must be confirmed before saving; the system will leave traces.
- The adjustment only affects the current task and will not be automatically merged into the new version of the textbook.
- Other textbook tasks in the same class can be reused and covered; the UI may provide Institutional Lesson Preparation Template Library (subject to the product, it still does not involve the production and uploading of textbooks).
For more detailed class defaults (scenario/pipeline pre-filling), see Class Practice Default Settings; the default item will not replace the "textbook lesson" selection.
How to confirm success
- This task appears in the teacher's task list.
- The student refreshes Speaking → To-do or Space, and a task with the same name appears.
- Students click to enter the Lesson page (Handout → Start Speaking Practice) instead of jumping directly into the free scene.
For the path on the student side, see Space: learn textbook lessons from tasks.
Common failures
| Issue | Resolution |
|---|---|
| There is no "Assign from textbook" or the list of textbooks is empty | The institution currently has no available textbook packs - contact the administrator to activate authorization; or use Free scenario assignment |
| Please select a textbook lesson | A specific lesson must be selected before publishing |
| The number of people posting is 0 | There are no students available in the class, please complete the class placement first |
| Students cannot see/enter the class page | Confirm that it has been published and not closed; students are in class and have been refreshed |
