Advanced: Practice policy and Opening (L1)
What is the institutional practice policy configuration, how is it aligned with platform capabilities, and when does it take effect for teachers and students after it is activated.
Audience: Organization admins · Applies: SaaS / private
Goal: Within the capabilities of the platform, prepare the practice policy of the institution so that teachers can arrange and students can practice the expected types.
Where is the UI?
Organization management → Main navigation Settings → Speaking & exams (practice policy / language packs, voice identity toggles, etc.; follow the UI). How schools turn it on: Voice identity: how schools turn it on. The speaker engine is configured by the platform / ops, not on this page.
What does the practice policy govern (by impact on students)
The UI can be understood by grouping "What will happen to students" (the title copy shall be based on the Speaking & exams page):
| For students | Common configurations |
|---|---|
| Can you practice | Enabled daily practice types, whether self-directed practice without homework is allowed, whether speaking exams are open, language pack/school level |
| How long to practice | Planned practice time (minutes) when the class opens; students must apply for extra time when they run out (the quota per person is not allocated on this page) |
| Verify yourself before taking the exam | Voice authentication: exam/practice switch and similarity threshold; if voice_identity_pack is missing, the entire section will be read-only and a missing package prompt will appear |
Common items (subject to the UI):
| Configuration items | Function |
|---|---|
| Enabled practice types | List of modes available to teachers/students of this institution (affects placement options and which type of surface students start practice on, does not change the "Spoken" four-Tab shell itself) |
| Default Practice type | Default for new tasks or free exercises |
| Available Scenarios | Select a subset from the platform scenario directory |
| Default/Allowed Pipelines | Select among Platform Unlocked Pipelines |
| Allow students to practice independently when they have no homework | Can students practice freely in Speaking → Self practice when they have no assignments |
| Examination related policies | Whether to open speaking exams and institution-level rules (if the platform has opened exam capabilities) |
| Voice identity | Formal exam/exercise is to verify yourself; pass threshold |
Cannot: Check the types or pipelines that are not provided by the platform capability pack. See Practice types · pipelines · scenarios for types and student entry points.
Recommended configuration order
- Open the Platform capability/ability description and confirm that the target type has been enabled on the platform side.
- Enter Speaking & exams (Practice Policy), first configure Can you practice, and then configure Whether I will be tested before the test; class How long to practice fill in the planned minutes when opening the class.
- Set whether to allow students to practice independently when they have no homework according to teaching needs.
- After saving, ask a teacher to try the layout, and a student to try to enter Speaking immediately (whether it is possible to speak, whether the quota is in effect, and whether to play the voiceprint when the test starts).
- Then notify the teacher to set Class Practice Default.
When will it take effect after activation?
- After the policy is saved, the newly opened layout page/exercise entry point will be displayed according to the new policy.
- Old tasks that have been released are generally still executed according to the current configuration of the task (subject to product behavior); new tasks use new policies.
- If you still cannot see the new type on the UI: refresh or log in again; if still not available, check the platform capability pack.
with Trial/Billing
- SaaS trial expiration may restrict New exercise, which is a different issue from "whether the policy is checked or not". See Trial expiration and official service activation.
- Purchasing additional capability packs is a platform business process, see Platform capability packs.
