startsharedsettings

Audience: Students / teachers / Organization admins / academic admins
Entry and layers: App settings: entry and layers.

Appearance

  • Color theme: e.g. DodoSpeak green, ocean blue.
  • Icon style: simple line icons or colored backgrounds.
  • (Students) Some clients also offer compact / full top bar options on the Speaking page.

Language & display

  • UI language: After switching, nav and settings copy update immediately (languages the product has enabled).
  • Font size: Standard / Large / Extra large; after login it may sync to the cloud; signed-out may apply only on this device.
  • Idle auto-logout: Signs you out after long inactivity; before logout you see “About to sign out,” and can tap Continue (options may include “Never expire”—follow the UI).

Practice-related (layered)

Capability boundary: Platform (L0) → Organization (L1) → Task (L2) → Personal (L3); lower layers must not exceed upper ones. See Four config layers at a glance, L2 / L3.

  • Students: Error display, AI voice auto-play, free-practice prefs when there is no homework, and speaking practice experience (default method, Talk live tab, partner avatar). The avatar appears on the speaking stage only; exams hide it. Settings may still label the default method Hold to talk—same as Tap to talk on the stage (when a teacher task exists, the task wins).
  • Teachers: Can view the org policy summary; class practice settings live under Me → Settings → Class practice settings (the practice config page can also Open class practice settings); assignment overrides live on the Tasks page. See Class practice defaults.
  • Organization admins: Configure open modes and “allow students to practice freely without homework” under Settings → Speaking & exams (practice policy / language packs, etc.). See Organization policy and activation.

Notifications (all roles)

Path: Settings → Preferences (students / teachers) or Workbench preferences (Organization / academic admins) → Notifications.

  • In-app: Whether this account receives in-app reminders (teaching and system notifications—follow the UI).
  • Email notifications: Whether to receive email reminders; requires the org to enable email capability—otherwise the toggle may be unavailable or show that email is not enabled.
  • Different from the notification list under Me / top-bar bell: the list is for viewing and marking read; this page only controls channel toggles. See Messages and notifications.

Data & privacy

Path: Settings → Data & privacy (Organization admins often see the group Ops & data).

  • Notification retention: Choose how long notifications stay in the inbox (e.g. 30 / 90 days or keep indefinitely); expired items are cleaned on schedule and do not affect login or practice config.
  • Storage cache: Clear local cache (follow the UI).
  • Data export / data cleanup:
    • Students / teachers: usually personal export and cleanup (may include practice records, messages, voice identity, etc.—follow checkboxes on the UI).
    • Organization admins: may have org-wide export / cleanup (may include org messages, voice identity enrollment, etc.—follow the UI).
    • Academic admins: usually only notification retention and local cache—no org export / cleanup.
  • Export important data before cleanup.
