Devices and access
Browser, PWA, Android and iOS app ways to open DodoSpeak, plus device requirements.
Audience: Student / Teacher / Organization admin · Applies to: SaaS / private (access URL may differ)
DodoSpeak targets computers and phones. Capabilities follow the Web App; the same login and practice UI can open in several ways.
Access methods
| Method | Notes | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Browser | Open the Web App in a modern Chrome, Edge, Safari, etc. | Recommended—no install |
| PWA install | “Add to Home Screen / Install app”, then open like a local icon | Available (optional) |
| Android app | Org-distributed Android client (store or package—per org plan) | Per org plan |
| iOS app | Org-distributed iOS client (TestFlight / App Store, etc.—per org plan) | Per org plan |
Without a separate Android/iOS package, prefer browser or PWA. The website “Get started” page has entry notes; private URLs come from the org.
Minimum vs best experience
Thresholds are by OS version + browser (not a fixed device model list). Below minimum, pages may still open, but recording, layout, and PWA are not guaranteed.
| Level | Notes |
|---|---|
| Minimum | iOS / iPadOS 16+ (Safari); Android 10+ (Chrome); Windows 10+ / macOS 12+ with a recent Chrome / Edge / Safari. Speaking needs a microphone and working network |
| Best experience | iOS / iPadOS 17+ or a recent tablet; Android 12+; latest desktop Chrome / Edge. Headset mic and stable Wi‑Fi recommended |
| Not guaranteed | Devices stuck on iOS / iPadOS 15 or earlier (e.g. older iPads that cannot update), very old system browsers / embedded WebViews, weak networks with many practice tabs |
Org admins doing imports or bulk config should prefer a desktop browser. Oral Console also opens in a browser: the phone bottom bar holds at most five items; Settings, roster, and other long-tail items go into the hub; iPad uses a drawer. See How to use Oral Console.
Recommended devices and environment
| Item | Suggestion |
|---|---|
| OS | See “Minimum / Best experience” above |
| Browser | Latest Chrome / Edge / Safari (avoid outdated embedded WebViews) |
| Network | Stable; on weak networks, avoid practicing in many tabs at once |
| Account | Org code (may be hidden on a custom domain) + school email and password |
Browser (recommended)
- Open the Web App from the website “Open DodoSpeak App” or an org-provided link.
- Choose identity (Student / Teacher / Organization) and sign in.
- On first practice, allow the browser microphone.
See Three roles and entry points, Student: first login.
PWA (optional, app-like)
For fewer URLs typed and one-tap home-screen entry:
| System | Common steps |
|---|---|
| iPhone / iPad (Safari) | Share → Add to Home Screen |
| Android (Chrome) | Menu → Install app or Add to Home screen |
| Desktop (Chrome / Edge) | Install icon near the address bar, or menu “Install” |
Icon name and splash follow the current site; login and practice match the browser.
Page won’t open / “Connection refused”?
If Chrome works but Edge (or another browser) does not on the same phone, the browser usually has stale local network cache—not a broken account, and not a full site outage.
Try in order:
- Cross-check with another browser: open the same URL in Chrome (or the system browser). If that works → go to step 2; if none work → switch network (Wi‑Fi ↔ mobile data) or try later.
- Clear browsing data in the failing browser (Edge / Chrome): Menu → Settings → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data → at least Cached images and files (Cookies optional) → clear, then reopen the URL.
- Still failing: temporarily turn off Secure DNS / network protection in that browser, or use Chrome. Prefer the “Minimum” OS/browser levels above (Android 10+, etc.).
If this help center won’t open in the current browser, read this page in one that works (e.g. Chrome), or use the website article, then clear cache here. Full Q&A: FAQ: Login and accounts.
Android / iOS apps
- Download channel and version notes come from the org or delivery partner—customers may differ.
- After install you still get the DodoSpeak login and role UI (Student / Teacher / Organization).
- If the org has no native app yet, use browser or PWA; features are not blocked (follow current product capability).
- Allow mic, notifications, etc. in system settings.
Notes by role
| Role | Notes |
|---|---|
| Student / Teacher | Phone or computer; practice needs mic permission |
| Organization admin | Import and configuration are easier in a desktop browser |
