Teacher: Assign speaking tasks
Create and publish speaking practice or a formal exam for a class on the Tasks page.

Goal: Publish speaking practice or a formal exam for a class so students see to-dos.
Two CTAs on Tasks (recommended)
At the top of main nav Tasks there are two primary buttons (copy follows the UI):

Me → More → Speaking exam still works, but is a secondary entry; daily assignment does not need to dig into More first.

Prerequisites
- Signed in as teacher and can see the target class.
- Organization practice policy has opened the practice types / pipelines / exam capability you need.
- The class has available students (the system assigns to those students automatically).
Where in the UI
Teacher main nav → Tasks. You can also enter from Home assignment entries. When assigning practice, choose between Free scenario pick and Assign from textbook.
Published lists can filter All / Speaking practice / Speaking exam.
Main fields (common · speaking practice)

Class practice defaults prefill some fields; you can override on this task. See Class practice defaults.
Steps (speaking practice)
- Open main nav Tasks, tap Assign speaking practice, pick a class.
- Fill title and description; set due time if needed.
- Choose practice type, pipeline, scenario, and other config.
- Create / publish.
- Confirm the new task appears in the published list on the same page as Published (filter by Speaking practice if useful).
After success, the system shows how many students received it; students see it under Speaking → To-do (and matching sub-pages).
Steps (speaking exam · summary)
- On Tasks, tap Assign speaking exam (or secondary Me → More → Speaking exam).
- Follow the wizard for paper / time limit / pass line, then publish.
- Students must select the exam in Speaking → Speaking exam → Exam to-do before starting (without a deep link, nothing auto-selects).
How to confirm success
- The published list shows the task.
- Refresh a student account’s Speaking → To-do and see the same title.
After publishing
- Follow completion from the task list.
- To stop intake, Close task (usually no longer a new-practice entry).
- Open Reports for class summaries; for academic templates use Reports → Export / reports. See View class report, Academic reports.
Common failures
| Symptom | What to do |

| Create task failed | Check required fields and network; confirm you are still signed in as teacher |
| A practice type is missing | Org has not opened it, or the platform capability pack is off—contact an admin |
| Publish count is 0 | Class has no available students; finish import / placement first |
| Students cannot see the task | Confirm student is in the class, task is published and not closed, student refreshed Speaking to-dos |
Org practice strategy is configured by admins under Settings → Speaking & exams.
