Groups (classes)
Group Oral Console roster learners so publishers can assign work. Read-only after production mint.
orallaborg
Audience: Oral Console manager users · Applies to: Oral Console
Goal: Open Groups from the settings hub and add existing roster learners. This is not the teaching App class directory.
Overview: How to use Oral Console. Roster master data stays on Learner roster; groups only organize people.
Before you start
- Signed in as Manager.
- The roster already has learners (UI or CSV / JSON import).
Where
Settings → organization ops → Groups (classes). The page has Back to settings.
On phones, Settings is a primary tab; Groups is not on the bottom bar.
Steps
- Open Groups and create a named group (UI wins).
- Add roster learners to the group.
- Switch to Publisher and assign a task or exam to the group (UI wins).
- After production + sign-in mint, groups are read-only lookup (delete / archive still allowed); members cannot be changed. See Two formal embed methods.
Mapping to production
Console groups are for trying “assign by class.” Production classes stay in your system; Oral only sees the learner ids you send. Do not embed this page in the school teaching back office.
How to confirm success
- The settings hub can open Groups.
- The group shows the roster learners you just added.
- During trial, a publisher can assign one task to that group.
Common failures
| What you see | Check first |
|---|---|
| Cannot find Groups | They live in the Settings hub, not the primary sidebar |
| Empty group | Create people on Learner roster first |
| Cannot change members after production | Expected after sign-in mint lock |
